Seasonal variation of antioxidant enzymatic responses in the desiccation-tolerant bryophyte Syntrichia ruralis (Hedw.) Web. & Mohr.

چکیده

Bryophytes are poikilohydric organisms that can be used as model plants to study desiccation tolerance mechanisms. The main objective of this was examine the activities antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT) and guaiacol (POD) in rehydrated desiccated states Syntrichia ruralis (Hedw.) Web. & Mohr. from two slopes, one North-east (NE) South-west (SW) facing collected different seasons. Our results showed seasonal variation enzymatic APX, CAT POD between slopes both states. mean value all MDA contents (a measure lipid peroxidation) tended higher moss cushions NE compared SW except summer season. values were with Protein content has lower winter Differences mosses growing on may reflect adaptations stress.

Evidence for the absence of enzymatic reactions in the glassy state. A case study of xanthophyll cycle pigments in the desiccation-tolerant moss Syntrichia ruralis

Desiccation-tolerant plants are able to withstand dehydration and resume normal metabolic functions upon rehydration. These plants can be dehydrated until their cytoplasm enters a 'glassy state' in which molecular mobility is severely reduced. In desiccation-tolerant seeds, longevity can be enhanced by drying and lowering storage temperature. In these conditions, they still deteriorate slowly, ...

Membrane Organization of the Desiccation-Tolerant Moss Tortula ruralis in Dehydrated States.

Membrane organization of the desiccation tolerant moss Tortula ruralis was studied in several intensely dehydrated states (75% relative humidity [RH], 90% RH, plasmolysis in molar salt, freezing to -20 degrees C) by (31)P nuclear magnetic resonance and ultrastructural analyses. Both methods revealed that even at 75% RH (-400 bars), the moss cellular membranes retained extended phospholipid bila...

Chapter 11 - 2 Photosynthesis : Photoinhibition

In high light intensities, chlorophyll can be damaged by the enhanced activity of electrons beyond that which it can process. This results in photoinhibition by decreasing the photosynthetic capacity. In tracheophytes, this is particularly pronounced in dehydrated plants, but in bryophytes, it seems the pattern is quite different. Seel et al. (1992) compared the desiccation-tolerant moss Syntri...

The Complete Plastome Sequence of an Antarctic Bryophyte Sanionia uncinata (Hedw.) Loeske

Organellar genomes of bryophytes are poorly represented with chloroplast genomes of only four mosses, four liverworts and two hornworts having been sequenced and annotated. Moreover, while Antarctic vegetation is dominated by the bryophytes, there are few reports on the plastid genomes for the Antarctic bryophytes. Sanionia uncinata (Hedw.) Loeske is one of the most dominant moss species in the...

Evaluation of seasonal variation in acne vulgaris

Background and Aim: Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases in adolescents and young adults. Although acne do not physically disable the patient, it can cause significant psychological morbidities. The disease etiology is not fully understood; however, there are several factors involved in the pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to investigate the seasonal variation of acne vul...
